Wanda Lee Shelton, age 86 of Lawton left this life on Wednesday, February 19, 2020.
Wanda was born on April 8, 1933 in Tupelo, Oklahoma to Aubrey and Julia Mae Isom Archer, she was one of eight children. She attended and played basketball at Tupelo High School. In 1952, she married Claude Shelton and moved to Lawton. In this union, they had two beautiful daughters. Wanda was one of a kind. She was a vivacious hard working go-getter. She became one of the first women police officers in Lawton. From there she went to work for Helen’s Club as a waitress and quickly learned the ins and outs of running a club. Little did she know she would be setting herself up for what would become her lifelong career, a business owner. In 1979, she became the proud owner of Wanda’s Club. Wanda’s Club would go on to be open for the next 36 years and she would become one of the longest club owners in Lawton. Wanda’s Club was a place where “everybody knew your name” and they were not just customers, they were family. Later in life she met James Drew who was her life-long partner of 20 years. Her favorite pastime was trips to Las Vegas, Tunica, and Apache Casino. She loved her family and we are so proud of the strong woman that she was. She will be missed.
