Martin Phillip Walters, a beloved husband, brother, son, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend passed away surrounded by loving family on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean following a brief, valiant battle with cancer. Martin found his eternal rest in the kingdom of our Father in Heaven on May 24, 2021.
Martin was born on March 29, 1963 to Dennis and Elizabeth (Sheehan) Walters in Carmel, Carmarthenshire County, Wales, United Kingdom. He was fluent in both Welsh and English. Once he completed the requirements to seek higher education, Martin earned a bachelor’s degree in Leisure Management from the Swansea Institute of Higher Education. He was an experienced lifeguard and swim coach, working in that field in both Wales and the YMCA in Lawton. An enthusiast of history, American Civil War history in particular, Martin interned for six months with the United States Park Service at the Spotsylvania and Fredericksburg battlefields in Virginia. Martin was converted and baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on April 18, 1993. Martin’s final calling at church was as a missionary, and he was a valiant holder of the Priesthood. Martin met the love of his life, Dory Kinsman of Lawton, in 2011. After a brief courtship, they married in Swansea, Wales on December 17, 2011, and were sealed for time and all eternity in the London Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on January 5, 2013. Martin and Dory have resided in Oklahoma since May 2013, living in Oklahoma City and Lawton. Martin was a proud Welshman and honorary American who loved the United States as well as his home country. He loved computers, history, traveling, and building his family tree. He also enjoyed boxing and aikido, as well as playing rugby, soccer, tennis, and badminton. Martin was proud of his employment at Dell Computers in Oklahoma City as an IT tech and loved the opportunities afforded to him in America. His infectious smile and gentle soul touched many lives, and all who knew him became a better person for their friendship with him.
