Celebration of Life for LaVan Williams, 69, of Lawton will be at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at the Boys and Girls Club of Lawton, 1315 SW F Ave Lawton.
LaVan Williams, AKA; Sweet Pea, AKA; Skinny, was born January 11th, 1953 to parents Essie Lee and Cecil Wilson and raised by secondary parents Rosa Lee and Woodrow Williams. He was the 4th child of an altogether 16 siblings: LaVan has always been happy with Lawton as his home and although he has had brief trials living in other states such as Alabama, Georgia and Texas, he was always happy to make it back home.
Lavan graduated Central High School in 1965 and worked in the Mess halls at Ft. Sill for years before becoming employed at Ken and Leo’s Truck Stop in 1971. He was a dedicated and well-respected employee at the time of his death on January 1st, 2023 due to natural causes. He was well known in his community and even more loved among those who knew him.
LaVan grew up much of his life at Bethel COGIC under Bishop J.A.Young and He is preceded in death by his four loving Parents and grandparents his six siblings; Brenda Williams-Matthews, Cathey Ann Desire, William Wilson, Isaac Wilson, Billy Woods and Willie Woods, five nephews; Eric Nicholson, Eric Hudgens, Phillip Greer, Michael Hudgens, and Anthony Shegog Jr., and two of his nieces; Christina Williams and NaKita Hudgens. Also preceding Lavan in death is a host of aunts, uncles and friends.
Left to mourn his passing is siblings; Johnnie Stubbs “Penny, of Deerfield Beach, Florida, Jacqueline Hudgens “Jackie” Detroit, Michigan, Charlene Cain (Carlton) of Pompano Beach Florida, Barbara “Bobi” (Lee) Greer of Tulsa, Ok. Ramona Shegog and Thelma Wilson both of Lawton and brothers; Fred E Woods/Deerfield Beach, Fla., Rodney Wilson “K-Ball" and Essex Wilson both of Lawton. Also left to mourn this beautiful passing are more than 22 nieces and 41 nephews (at last count). He is also survived by another host of extended family and friends.
